Brompton Custom Bike Builder

.

Price for your Brompton build: £ »»
Estimated weight of your Brompton build: Kg (Estimate only, excluding any luggage selections)
Model Type
Whatever other features you choose, you can always save about a kilogramme by selecting a superlight bike in the frame and colour section.
Additional weight savings can be made by choosing an S-Type, a 1 or 2 speed and not adding mudguards etc.
A pump is standard on all bikes EXCEPT superlight models or Version E bikes.

M Type (+£700.00)
M Type: The gull-wing shape of the M Type's handlebars has been used on the Brompton since the outset: the grip height is 1015mm, which gives a fairly upright ride with excellent control, and there is scope for a little fore/aft adjustment. The M Type is the all-rounder in our range and remains the most popular Brompton.
P Type (+£700.00)
P Type: The multiple positions afforded by the P Type’s handlebars are designed with the touring cyclist in mind. Although they are a little heavier than the M Type's handlebars, the lower grips, about 880mm from the ground and angled for comfort on longer stretches of road, allow the rider to get down out of the wind and deliver real power to the pedals; the upper grips at about 1033mm provide a welcome contrast after a long stretch of riding and also give great control for manoeuvring in traffic.
S Type (+£700.00)
S Type: For many, this is the prettiest Brompton, and with its Kevlar brake cables and high-tensile-alloy handlebar, it is the lightest. The grips, at about 935mm from the ground, are appreciably lower than on the M type, and 50mm further forward, giving a sporty riding position which complements the positive feel of these bikes.
H Type (+£700.00)
H Type: This is the new higher handlebar and stem, giving a more upright relaxed riding position.
If you want to sit more upright, then this is the model for you. The stem is approximately 2 cms higher than the M -Type and the same handlebars are used, and the price is the same too.

Gearing Options
The lowered gearing options make pedalling easier... but reducing your top speed.
The higher gearing option makes pedalling harder... but increasing your top speed.

1 spd [standard 5.93m/74"] (+£0.00)
1 spd [standard 5.93m/74"]: Featuring just the elegant simplicity of the Brompton rear hub, this is the purist's choice. As with all single-speed cycling, the direct drive minimises pedalling inefficiency, though the lack of gear range may make this option unsuitable for those riding over hilly terrain and/or looking for more acceleration.
2 spd [standard 4.45m-5.93m/56"-74"] (+£60.00)
2 spd [standard 4.45m-5.93m/56"-74"]: One gear for hills & starting off, and one for cruising. Based on the unique Brompton derailleur system and an elegant new Brompton rear hub, this is the best gearing solution for lightness and portability. The direct drive, with near-perfect chain-alignment in either gear, is crisp and efficient.
3 spd [standard 3.79m-6.76m/48"-85"] (+£60.00)
3 spd [standard 3.79m-6.76m/48"-85"]: The classic Sturmey-Archer hub, upgraded to an alloy shell, provides three well-spaced gears. These are fully enclosed for reliability, and control couldn’t be simpler. A popular choice for everyday biking.
6 spd [standard 2.63m-7.94m/33"-99"] (+£120.00)
6 spd [standard 2.63m-7.94m/33"-99"]: The combination of the new, highly-efficient Brompton Wide Range hub with our own derailleur system gives six evenly-spaced gears. Control with the two triggers is easy and, with its low transmission losses and wide range, this multi-gear system is the right choice for touring and for riding in hilly areas.

Mudguards & Rack

Version E (No Mudguards, No Rack) (+£0.00)
Version E (No Mudguards, No Rack): The lightest, cheapest and prettiest version, but with obvious drawbacks: although the folded package stands up OK, it’s not as stable as the other versions, and there's no pump fitted. Most importantly, of course, there is no protection from any water or dirt thrown up from the road.
Version L (Mudguards, No Rack) (+£50.00)
Version L (Mudguards, No Rack): The most common package: all-weather riding without any extra weight.
Version R (Mudguards and Rack) (+£100.00)
Version R (Mudguards and Rack): Version R provides the additional functionality of a luggage rack over the rear wheel. The die-cast aluminium rack comes with shock cords for tying items on, and a specially-designed Rack Sack is also available for use with it. The rear rack also allows the optional fitting of our Eazy Wheels, enabling the folded bike to be pulled along instead of carried.

Frame Type & Colours
For all steel Bromptons, you may select seperate colours for the main frame and the extremities. These colours may be the same OR different EXCEPT for Raw Laquer which is not available in combination.
Superlight bikes, which include a range of titanium parts and lightweight compnentry, only one colour may be selected (for handlebar stem and main frame). Titanium parts are unpainted.

Seat Height
For an inside leg over 84cm/33" you should almost certainly fit an extended or telescopic seat pillar; the latter is best for an inside leg over 90cm/35", or for taller riders wishing to minimise the height of the folded bicycle.

Standard (+£0.00)
Standard: The standard seat pillar is the default option; its shorter length keeps the weight down and ensures the most compact folded package. A standard seat pillar should be fine for anyone with an inside leg measurement of 33"/840mm or less.

An Aluminium pillar is supplied on Superlight models, saving an additional 75g.
Extended (+£0.00)
Extended: 60mm (over 2 inches) longer than the standard seat pillar and a bit heavier, designed for those with longer legs and available at no extra charge. The main drawback is that the seat pillar protrudes correspondingly higher from the folded package.

Superlight models come with an Aluminium version of the extended seat pillar if this option is selected.
Telescopic (+£35.00)
Telescopic: The telescopic seat pillar is designed for those with an inside leg greater than 35"/890mm or for taller riders wishing to minimise how far the seat pillar protrudes from the folded package. The telescopic seat pillar gives up to 175mm (almost 7 inches) more elevation yet, when lowered, the saddle projects only 20mm above the folded package.

Saddle

Standard (+£0.00)
Standard: Sporty, comfortable, light, practical: this high-quality unisex saddle has been designed by Brompton specifically for our bikes. A moulded grip under the nose facilitates carrying, and the ingenious and incredibly light Brompton Pentaclip allows stepless adjustment of the saddle angle.
Brooks B17 Special (Mens) (+£55.00)
Brooks B17 Special (Mens): Made for Brompton, this beautiful traditional saddle will give years of comfortable cycling, the leather moulding with time to the rider. Finished with hand-hammered copper rivets, and fitted with the Brompton Pentaclip for stepless adjustment, this old favourite is available in men’s and women’s versions.
Brooks B17 Special (Ladies) (+£55.00)
Brooks B17 Special (Ladies): Made for Brompton, this beautiful traditional saddle will give years of comfortable cycling, the leather moulding with time to the rider. Finished with hand-hammered copper rivets, and fitted with the Brompton Pentaclip for stepless adjustment, this old favourite is available in men’s and women’s versions.

Rear Suspension
Firm suspension may be more suitable for those weighing over 80Kg and those who value responsiveness above comfort.

Tyres

Brompton Kevlar (+£0.00)
Brompton Kevlar: The Greens are essentially our standard tyres but with a Kevlar belt under the tread. This barely affects the free-running qualities of the tyre and almost eliminates the likelihood of punctures. They also come with reflective sidewalls as standard, eliminating the need for reflectors on the wheel spokes. Now standard on all 2010 Bromptons.
Schwalbe Marathon (+£10.00)
Schwalbe Marathon: The Marathons are a little heavier than the Brompton tyres and the deep uni-directional tread, which gives superior grip, also means that they are not quite as free-running. But they are solidly-built, with both a Kevlar belt and a thicker sidewall to lower the risk of pinch-punctures. Like the Brompton tyres, they also come with reflective sidewalls, eliminating the need for reflectors on the wheel spokes.
Schwalbe Kojak (+£20.00)
Schwalbe Kojak: The Kojaks are narrow section tyres comparable to the tyres fitted to road race bikes; maintained at even higher pressures than our other tyres, these lightweight slicks are the fastest in our range. Their slightly smaller diameter means that gearing is lowered by 2.5% and their narrower width also makes them unsuitable for use with tyre-driven dynamo lighting. They do not come with a reflective sidewall, so reflectors are fitted to the wheels.

Lighting
The tyre driven dynamo can not be used with Schwalbe Stelvio tyres.

Battery Light Set (+£30.00)
Battery Light Set: The LED rear lamp with integral reflectors is designed specially for Brompton and gives a good bright light: this stays fixed to the bike. At the front is the neat yet powerful S-son 3-LED lamp, easily removed for folding with a quick-release. Batteries are included.
Shimano Hub Dynamo System (+£75.00)
Shimano Hub Dynamo System: In this modern system, power comes from the Shimano Nexus Hub dynamo. Lighting comprises a Basta halogen lamp at the front and the bright Brompton rear stand-light: this stays on for several minutes after you've stopped - a great safety feature.
SON Hub Dynamo System (+£320.00)
SON Hub Dynamo System: Expensive, but beautiful; the Son hub is beautifully engineered, highly efficient, and you can expect years of reliable service. Control is via a switch on the front lamp; otherwise the lamps are the same as for the tyre dynamo system.

Front Luggage
Front luggage sets come complete with front carrier block and frame to attach the luggage top the brompton, as well as a waterproof cover. Please note that only the S-Bag is suitable for use with an S-Type model.

S Bag Set (+£115.00)
S Bag Set: A messenger-style bag which presents a lower profile than the other options, and offers more compartments to store the paraphernalia of modern life. Velcro-fastening tabs keep things dry, with clips as well for the main cover. This is the only front luggage option for the S Type’s lower handlebars, but can also be used on other Bromptons. Capacity 20 litres.
C Bag Set (+£115.00)
C Bag Set: A larger messenger-style bag with a Velcro- and buckle-fastened flap. The comfortable padded shoulder strap secures neatly when the bag is fitted to the bike. A multitude of pockets finished with water resistant zips keep those small essentials safe and dry and a bright lining means an end to searching for small items in the dark recesses of your bag. Capacity 22 litres.
T Bag Set (+£105.00)
T Bag Set: Has considerably more capacity than the Cloth Pannier, and a roll-top system with nylon clips for closing. There are two pockets at the back and a divider inside. In addition, there are three elasticated net pockets around the outside, where you can stow the things you need during your ride. Total internal capacity approximately 28 litres.
Folding Basket Set (+£65.00)
Folding Basket Set: This is our simplest item of luggage - a large, open-top container, ideal for shopping. Its shape is maintained by a simple bracing frame which folds flat for storage. Drainage holes are provided in case of rain. Capacity 24 litres.
Mini O Bag (White/Black) (+£95.00)
Mini O Bag (White/Black): The Mini O Bag sits nicely on the Brompton bike when folded, without dragging it to one side or the other. It isn’t so bulky as some of the larger bags.

Rear Luggage
The Rack Sack can only be configured on a Version R bike with rear rack.

Rack Sack (+£65.00)
Rack Sack: Made from tough DuPont Cordura, the Rack Sack has been designed to complement the Brompton's rear rack perfectly. With the sides lined for stiffness, the Rack Sack offers 16 litres of storage without obscuring any Brompton lighting system. It is attached to the bike via straps, clips and Velcro around the suspension bung, the rear rack and the seat pillar, offering a highly secure, shower-proof solution. Comes supplied with a shoulder strap.

Transport & Storage
B Bag (+£135.00)
Weighing 2.4Kg and made of tough nylon with 5mm padding and a reinforced base, the B Bag is designed to provide protection against bumps and knocks on longer journeys. The B Bag's integral castors, shoulder strap and carry handles make transportation easy, and when not in use it packs down flat for storage.
Eazy Wheels (+£20.00)
These tyred rollers with industrial bearings can either be fitted to the rear rack, or in place of the rollers attached to the rear frame, allowing the folded bike to be smoothly pushed/pulled around. A rubber bung, fitted to the bottom of the seat post, can be used as a brake to prevent unwanted rolling.
Cover (+£25.00)
Often useful, especially when travelling on public transport, the zip-up Brompton Cover is quick to fit and remove, and features a draw cord around its base to ensure a secure fit. The cover comes in a saddle bag, ensuring it is readily to hand; the saddle bag can be attached to purpose-built fastening loops at the rear of the basic and Brooks saddles or to the rails of the Vitesse saddle.
